Paciolla is inspired by and takes its name from the Renaissance painting “The Portrait of Luca Pacioli” , in which an enigmatic Archimedean polyhedron is represented: a transparent rhombicuboctahedron (also called small rhombicuboctahedron).
Uses of Paciolla
Paciolla is suitable from 3-4 months of life of the newborn and has been conceived and built for the following purposes.
Early stimulation of prensility
Paciolla has been sized so that it cannot be understood by the newborn with the use of only the palm of the hand: equipped with grooves of different sizes and wide enough for the small fingers so that, safely without the risk of the phalanges getting stuck, it could invite the infant to exercise grip. Paciolla is hollow and therefore light, and it does not tire the baby during handling.
Visual focus
Paciolla is equipped with engraved or embossed surfaces, with high-contrast geometric designs that help visual focus in the first months of life.
Acoustic stimulation
Paciolla is hollow. Inside there are nine balls which, when manipulated, emit sounds that attract the baby’s acoustic attention.
To reduce the sharp edges of the rhombicuboctahedron and therefore ensure the newborn a more pleasant and safe sensory experience, it was decided to create Paciolla based on a polyhedron derived from the rhombicuboctahedron, the truncated cuboctahedron (also called large rhombicuboctahedron).
Under development
Paciolla is a project under development which aims to create and test the following versions.
Paciolla Personal
Paciolla Personal may have designs or logos on the surface, customized and chosen by the customer.
Paciolla Blockchain
Paciolla Blockchain will be equipped for each produced model with a unique alphanumeric code stored in an internal RFID tag and readable by a transponder. The unique code will be connected to a public or private online database, certified in blockchain, and containing the unalterable data of the buyer, the donor, the name of the recipient, any changes of ownership and other personalized text messages.
Paciolla Light
Paciolla Light is the luminous version of Paciolla. It will be equipped inside with a LED that illuminates it transparently, highlighting the drawings on the surface or the density gradients of the walls, increasing visual stimulation. Paciolla Light will be equipped with a base and a wireless charging reception circuit of adequate power to remain on continuously during charging. It can also be used as a night lamp for child’s – or parents’ – bedroom.
The built-in internal battery will still be sized to ensure a wireless night of light. The switching on and off will take place by shaking it thanks to the presence of an internal accelerometer or magnetic sensors.
The possibility of 3D printing in conductive materials the coils for wireless charging and some parts of the circuits and components is being evaluated. The design choices that will guide the hardware realization of Paciolla Light will be made in full compliance with the European principle of precaution and health protection.
Paciolla Light will use certified LEDs and circuits of the best quality available and will use components capable of supplying the light source with as constant a voltage as possible without exposing the newborn to the phenomenon of light flickering.
The three versions under development can be combined to offer a unique and innovative product that is aesthetically pleasing and stimulating.
